The heart and tuberous sclerosis. An echocardiographic and electrocardiographic study.

چکیده
Cross sectional echocardiography, 12 lead electrocardiography, and 24 hour ambulatory electrocardiography were performed in eleven patients with tuberous sclerosis. Echocardiography showed single or multiple intramyocardial masses, most commonly in the ventricular septum, suggestive of rhabdomyomata in seven of the eleven cases. One patient with a normal echocardiogram showed ventricular pre-excitation on electrocardiography, with tachycardias of 180 beats per minute on ambulatory monitoring. Sinus bradycardia, sinus tachycardia, and supraventricular tachycardia were also seen, but their importance is uncertain. Echocardiography and electrocardiography should be routinely performed in the assessment of patients with tuberous sclerosis and ambulatory electrocardiography should be considered in those with seizures that respond poorly to anticonvulsants.

Age-dependent electrocardiographic and echocardiographic changes in German Shepherd dogs
By causing numerous changes in the cardiovascular system, ageing leads to a decreased threshold for clinical manifestation of heart disease. The aim of this study was to define the existence of cardiac structural and functional changes in healthy dogs of different age. Radiographic, electrocardiographic (ECG) and echocardiographic examinations of 20 clinically healthy German Shepherd dogs were ...
متن کاملAssociation of Pemphigus Vulgaris and Tuberous Sclerosis: A case report
Pemphigus vulgaris is a blistering autoimmune disease with suprabasal cleft formation, which is the most common autoimmune blistering disease in eastern countries, such as Middle East. Predisposition to pemphigus is linked to genetic factors. Tuberous sclerosis is also a genetic disorder of hamartoma formation in many organs, particularly the skin, brain, eye, kidney and heart. We report ...
متن کاملTuberous sclerosis with Cardiac Tumor in fetus with Diabetic Mother
Introduction A heart tumor in children is rare and the most primary tumor of the heart is rhabdomyoma. We report a case of cardiac mass diagnosed at 32th weeks of pregnancy while the mother had gestational diabetes Mellitus. Serial echocardiography revealed regression of the tumor; then follow up of the patient confirmed tuberous sclerosis.
متن کاملtuberous sclerosis
A search for children presenting with signs or symptoms of cardiac rhabdomyomas was made through members of the paediatric section of the British Cardiac Society in order to establish their birth incidence, presenting features, clinical course, and the frequency of a concurrent diagnosis of tuberous sclerosis. Fifteen children were identified and 12 had tuberous sclerosis (80%). Heart failure w...
متن کاملCardiac Rhabdomyomas and Congenital Hypothyroidism: A Coincidence or Hamartia
Cardiac rhabdomyomas are the most common primary cardiac tumors in children. These tumors are generally asymptomatic, although they may be associated with neonatal tuberous sclerosis complex. Despite the fact that thyroid dysfunction rarely occurs in tuberous sclerosis, papillary adenomas (hamartomas) of the thyroid gland have been reported in a number of autopsies. Herein, we present the case ...
